When you send your children off to school you like to think they're going to be safe. This may have you wondering.
For the second time in as many weeks we are learning of syringes found by a school and police say this has been happening more and more.
"I believe there have been a couple other incidents where kids have found syringes," says Toronto Police Constable David Hopkinson.
The latest incident was at the back of Montrose Junior Public School near Harbord and Ossington.
Police say a child was playing in a playground at the start of the school day when they picked up a syringe.
Luckily, in this case, the child wasn't poked but a teacher found another syringe in the area.
This has police reminding parents to have a talk with their children.
"Our kids aren't guarded 25/7," Hopkinson says. "We sort of have to street proof them. We have to let them know what things they can and cannot touch."
Just last week, three children went to hospital after being poked by needles near a school in Roncesvalles.
Police say anyone who finds a syringe should call 311 to have it picked up.
They're also asking anyone with information to call police at 416-808-1400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
