It's been one week since the King Street pilot project was started and police say thousands of warnings have been issued to drivers not folling the new rules.
Monday those warnings turn into tickets that have fines and demerit points attached. Fines begin at $110 with two demerit points if convicted.
Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe tells our sister station CP24 most drivers given warnings tell officers they did not know about the pilot project or did not see the signs on the road.
The one year pilot project forces all traffic on King Street between Jarvis and Bathurst Streets to only go one block before having to turn right, no left turns are allowed.
On street parking has been removed as well.
The goal is to make streetcar traffic move faster. 65,000 riders use the corridor on an average weekday. It's considered the busiest surface transit route in the city.
