It wasn't quite as elaborate of a rescue mission as the infamous crane girl incident, but police and firefighters were dealing with another climber Wednesday night.
They got a call about a man up a crane near Dundas and Jarvis at 11:30 p.m. He was halfway across the arm of the crane, about 40 feet up.
Fire officials say the man seemed emotionally distressed as he was yelling when they arrived.
Police called in one of their psychiatrists who climbed a fire truck aerial ladder so he could get close to the man to talk.
During negotiations, officials say they gave the man food and cigarettes.
He has been taken to hospital to be assessed for his mental health.
Charges of public mischief are possible.
