Toronto Police have put out a warning about a person who is being released from prison, but is someone who they say is at a high risk to re-offend.
The 45 year old has spent the last 8 years and 10 months behind bars, for a sexual assault conviction.
So, why release him in the first place?
"The reality is, this is a guy who was convicted of a serious crime and has served a lengthy sentence." says NEWSTALK1010's Legal Expert Ed Prustchi "But once someone finishes their sentence, that's the definition of sentencing justice in any democracy, you do the crime you do the time. And when the time is done, you get released."
But Prutschi says Joseph Thayakaran Joseph will have to abide by several conditions as he tries to merge back into society.
That's because he's been subjected to an 810.2 recognizance order, with conditions that include, checking in with police weekly, staying off social media unless with permission and if he meets any women, he'd have to identify her to police.
"It's just another tool that police are using to follow up on people and keep track of people, who, while they have done the time, still potentially pose a risk." says Prutschi.
Police say Joseph intends to live in Toronto upon his release.
