Government-commissioned polling shows that more than a year before Ontario's Liberal government announced in 2015 that it would partially privatize Hydro One, there was strong opposition to the idea.
Pollara conducted research at the government's behest in January and February of 2014, asking people their thoughts on selling Crown corporations including Hydro One.
The general response? Don't do it.
The polling found most Ontarians wouldn't support the sale of any Crown corporations, and just 25 per cent supported selling Hydro One.
One month after the government received the data it announced a panel to review assets.
One year after that, in April of 2015, the Liberals announced their plan to sell up to 60 per cent of Hydro One.
In the interim, the government had taken another crack at asset-sale polling, but three-quarters still said Hydro One should be publicly owned.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says partial sale was important for the four-billion dollars it's expected to raise for infrastructure spending.
