A new poll suggests Torontonians like the idea of a park over the downtown rail corridor, they just don't want to pay for it.
Forum Research surveyed almost 800 people in the city last week and 51% like the idea of building 21 new acres of park space between Bathurst and Blue Jays Way.
However, the $1 billion price tag isn't sitting well.
46% disagreed with using public money to pay for it, while only 37% support spending your tax dollars.
Mayor John Tory was on Moore in the Morning on NEWSTALK 1010. "I'm looking for ways in which we can get the private sector to contribute to that," Tory said. "But the notion that we can get a free park...is just like that we can't get free transit."
Some the biggest support for the park came from younger people, higher earners and people who live downtown.
Middle income earners, older people and people in Scarborough tended to oppose it.
City council has already approved spending $2.4 million on studies.
