A popular neighbourhood diner in Greektown was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
Flames broke out at Detroit Eatery, on Danforth Ave. near Chester Ave., around 6:30am.
It took Toronto firefighters roughly 4 hours to put them out.
The fire was contained to the restaurant but nearby businesses were damaged by smoke and soaked by the water sprayed to douse the blaze.
A bridal gown shop next door reportedly suffered significant smoke damage.
People who live nearby describe Detroit Eatery as a neighbourhood institution where locals would gather over plates of affordable food and drinks.
The decades-old greasy-spoon is known for its all-day breakfast and hamburgers and once hosted a music video shoot by The Tragically Hip.
The restaurant is owned and operated by a family, who neighbours say are pillars of the Danforth community.
One of the Detroit Eatery's regulars has set up an online fundraising campaign to extend them a lifeline during this emergency.
Toronto Fire officials say its still to early to say how the fire started, or how much it'll cost to repair the damage.
UPDATE: An online fundraiser has been set up for the family that owns and runs #Greektown’s Detroit Eatery. A GoFundMe page calls on potential donors to ‘help restore it to its former glory’ after today’s fire. #Torontohttps://t.co/unx7UDs6Gy
