Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is pledging an extra $822 million for hospitals in 2018-19.
Wynne says the 4.6% increase will help address hospital overcrowding, reduce wait times and better meet the needs of the province's aging population.
Last week, Ontario's Financial Accountability Office warned the quality of healthcare would slide if the government didn't spend more. The watchdog figured that without finding efficiences or delaying planned maintenance, the province would have to spend an extra $2 billion a year to catch up the growing cost of healthcare.
