A private member's bill is being introduced at Queen's Park on Monday that targets distracted pedestrians.
The Phones Down, Heads Up Act, to be introduced by MPP Yvan Baker, if passed, would prevent pedestrians from using phones or electronic devices when crossing roadways.
The bill calls for first offenders to receive a $50 fine, $75 for a second offence, and $125 for a third offence.
Exceptions would include using a cell phone to call 911, or when a call is started before a pedestrian begins to cross the street.
Municipalities would be able to opt out.
