Social media has been flooded with comments today about a test alert that Ontarians were waiting for, but many did not receive.
The Alert Ready system is being expanded from TV and radio, to cell phones. Emergency messages will be sent out directly to your phone when there is an Amber Alert, severe weather on the way, or a threat for a terror attack.
The new system was tested at 1:55 p.m. Monday afternoon, but many people say they never received the test message. For those who got the alert, it appears that the tone did not sound if the phone was on silent.
Officials with Bell say they are investigating why some of their customers with compatible phones did not get the alert.
Pelmorex, which runs the system, has yet to comment on how the test went in Ontario. It had failed earlier in the day in Quebec because of an extra space added in the coding.
A spokesperson with the CRTC says this is why they are running tests, to make sure they work out any bugs before there is a real emergency.
