There is a move by the province to try to speed up the building of new homes but it's not going over well in Toronto.
The province is considering allowing developers to hire their own architects and engineers to do the inspections normally done by city building inspectors.
That has Toronto city staff worried.
In a report to the planning and housing committee, the city's chief building official says he is worried about potential conflicts of interest.
Right now, city inspectors have to sign off on each stage of construction.
The province's plan would include new training for architects and engineers that would allow them to do those inspections so developers would not have to wait for a city inspector.
But even the Ontario Association of Architects is not on board with the idea.
They say, if architects have to take on the liability, their insurance would go up and that would mean higher building costs.
