The provincial government is planning some changes to the way teachers are hired, potentially giving principals more choice.
The current rules say they have to hire from the most senior supply teachers to fill long term or permanent jobs.
According to a report in the Toronto Star, Education Minister Lisa Thompson calls that rule outdated and says the government wants to allow new teachers to apply directly for permanent positions.
She says it's a way to recognize teachers who excel at their jobs.
The rule about hiring the most senior supply teachers is not that old.
It was written in 2012 by the previous Liberal government after complaints about nepotism in some smaller school boards.
