It sounds like something straight out of James Bond.
Provincial Police in Ontario are now armed with a new technology to help stop drivers, rather than entering into a dangerous police chase.
It's called Star Chase, and essentially it's a gun that shoots sticky darts from the front of a police cruiser.
That dart carries a GPS transmitter, which allows police to back off and monitor the vehicle from a remote location. When it stops, they can move in for the arrest.
No chase means, no risk to public safety.
"It allows us to track the vehicle in real-time without us having to be in close proximity or direct contact with the vehicle. It's monitored from our provincial communications centre." says Sgt Kerry Schmidt.
As of right now, it's only a pilot project, with three OPP cruisers set up. After a year of use, they'll take a closer look to see if the test has been a success or a fail.
But one thing is for sure according to Schmidt.
"This will allow us to take away the public safety risk."
