If you've ever driven near Yonge and Sheppard than you know how terrible it is.
It's complete congestion most times of the day and night.
A proposal to cut two lanes of traffic and replace them with bicycle lanes running all the way to Finch was in front of the public works committee today.
Unfortunately for supporters of the idea things didn't go as planned.
A motion to keep the expressway as six lanes and install bicycle lanes on Beecroft carried 3-1.
The four-lane proposal known as REimagine Yonge Street will now go to city council.
Willowdale Councillor John Filion says residents want a main street they can walk along, window shop, and enjoy a meal outdoors.
"You have to eliminate the six lanes. Where you put the bicycle lanes is another matter, you can put them in either spot. If you have the room to put the bicycle lanes on Yonge Street why not do that and save all the disruption on Beecroft?"
There are currently 14 lanes running north-south between Sheppard and Finch. "We're reducing 14 lanes to 12. The 12 lanes are more than enough," argues Filion.
