The search continues Sunday for the body of a 11-year-old boy from Ottawa, who slipped under the waters of the St. Lawrence River Saturday afternoon after the boat he was on capsized.
According to CTV News Ottawa, there were five people on the cigarette-style boat when it began to run into trouble at about 3:30 p.m. near the Village of Rockport, in the Thousand Islands area.
The OPP say emergency crews were able to rescue four people, but the boy did not resurface and is presumed to have drowned.
Involved in what's now considered a recovery effort are the OPP, the Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Leeds and Thousand Islands Fire Department, the RCMP and members of the public. Army helicopters also surveyed the waters from the air on Saturday.
Police report the boy had been on vacation with his family when the incident occurred.
It's not yet known why the boat capsized.
