It’s that time of year again! The time of year when parents scramble to sign their children up for fall and winter recreation programs, offered by the City of Toronto.
Registration at many recreation centres opens Saturday, September 8th, at 7 a.m.
The hope for many is that things run much smoother in 2018, than they have in the past.
Computer glitches and long delays in previous years caused chaos and confusion for some parents trying to sign their kids up for swimming, skating and general rec programs. Some couldn't get into any programs at all.
In early 2017, the city boosted its server capacity to make it easier for more people to access the system online. The city was expected to get new technology for its registration system and have it in place by this year, since most registrations are now processed online.
According to the city, registration gets underway, at 7 in the morning, for the following dates/locations:
· Saturday, September 8 for Etobicoke/York
· Sunday, September 9 for Scarborough
· Wednesday, September 12 for Toronto/East York and West Toronto/York
· Thursday, September 13 for North York
Here are some pre-registration tips from the City of Toronto:
Programs fill up fast! Make sure you’re ready before registration opens:
1. Get your family account and client numbers
2. Make your list of programs
3. Find out when registration opens for your programs
After registration opens, you can register for programs until all spots are filled.

It’s important to note - some parts of Toronto/East York have combined with Etobicoke/York to create what’s now been dubbed the West Toronto/York district.
And priority registration dates have changed for some programs:
