Police in Durham region appear to have made a distressing break in the case of Rori Hache.
The 18-year-old was reported missing this past August and a fisherman found her torso floating near the Oshawa harbour a month later.
A post-mortem has revealed that remains found in a basement apartment over the weekend near Centre and Bond Streets are those of Hache.
Cst. George Tudos says investigators were called to the home on MacMillan Drive by a citizen doing work there about finding something. When officers arrived the remains and an explosive device were located.
''That night we arrested one suspect, Adam Jeffrey Strong, a 45-year-old that resided at MacMillan Drive in Oshawa. He was charged with improper/indecent interference with a dead body. He was held for bail and the investigation continued."
Tudos won't comment on whether Strong and Hache knew one another or how long the remains may have been inside the unit.
"We have an extension on the warrant at that residence for another 30 days and investigators advised me that they'll probably be spending the majority of their time with our forensics officers at the scene going through evidence and anything they might find at the residence."
Strong remains in custody and will appear in court on January 10th.
