Police in Sault Ste. Maire closed the city’s border crossing into the United States after a small potentially explosive device was found in a vehicle Sunday aftenroon.
After an investigation it turned out to be an inert replica hand grenade.
Officers were called to the Canadian side of the border in the city at 2:20 p.m. after CBSA officers found what they believed could be an explosive device while conducting a secondary search of a vehicle.
The International Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions while bomb squad officers complete an investigation.
Police determined the device was an inert replica grenade and posed no threat to public safety.
The bridge was opened just before 4 p.m.
No word on if anyone will face charges because of the discovery.
