Earlier this week Doug Ford announced he would make an announcement at his family's annual Ford Fest barbecue in Etobicoke.
Ford told Newstalk 1010 he would publicly declare whether he intends to run for MPP or mayor of Toronto September 8.
The Toronto Star reports sources tell them it will be a mayoral rematch between Ford and John Tory next year.
The Star says Ford has been building a team for his mayoral run. Tory beat him in the last election in 2014.
Queen's Park Bureau Chief for the Toronto Star Robert Benzie was on The Rush Friday afternoon. He told Newstalk 1010 about the article in The Star that has been published.
"I talked to a lot of Tories about this," Benzie said "they appreciate he brings something to the table like name recognition, but he is considered a liability."
"The Donald Trump comparision is problematic for (Progressive Conservative Leader) Patrick Brown." he added.
The next municipal election will be held Oct. 22, 2018.
