A new report suggests the Ford government's plan for education could lead to hundreds of fewer high school teaches in the Toronto District School Board.
We learned last week that the province would increase class sizes in high schools to an average of 28 students from 22.
The Toronto Star reports that according to a TDSB document, the changes could mean the loss of 800 teachers.
The school board chair tells the paper the number is preliminary and they'll have a better idea this week when they look at staffing for the next school year.
The reductions will be phased in over four years and the education minister has promised they'll come through retirements and resignations.
Still, there's concern that fewer teachers will mean fewer different types of classes.
The government is also boosting class sizes in grades four to eight.
The document suggests that could lead to the loss of another 216 positions.
