There are new, dramatic details this morning on the mass shooting in Nova Scotia and what happened in the moments before the killing began.
CTV News reports that the violence started with Gabriel Wortman's girlfriend. They say she was beaten and handcuffed but she managed to escape and hide in the woods nearby.
She was reportedly the person who gave officers a photo of Wortman's fake police cruiser.
We told you yesterday that during the confusion, two RCMP officers opened fire on a firehall that was being used to house evacuees.
We are now learning why.
A source tells CTV that they were shooting at another officer who they thought was a suspect and that they only stopped when he identified himself.
A digital tribute to the 22 people who died in this rampage, is being held tonight on Facebook.
