According to The New York Times, investigators for Major League Baseball have determined that the Boston Red Sox used an Apple Watch to steal signs from the New York Yankees.
The newspaper reports that the Yankees caught a member of the Red Sox training staff stealing signs from opposing catchers, looking at his Apple Watch in the dugout and sending a message to batters to know the type of pitch that was about to be thrown.
The Times adds that the investigation started after Yankees GM Brian Cashman made a complaint to MLB that reportedly included video of the Red Sox in their dugout at Fenway Park in their series from August 18-20.
The New York Times also reported that the Red Sox responded by accusing the Yankees of stealing signs using cameras from the team's YES Network. It is not known yet if the commissioner's office will issue any penalties against the Red Sox or if there will be a deeper investigation on both complaints.
"(I'm) aware of the rule that electronic devices are not to be used in the dugout, but beyond that the only thing I can say is that it's a league matter at this point," Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters before Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
