There are some stunning new details about just how easy it is for pharmacists to steal from taxpayers.
The Toronto Star has spoken to a man who claims he comes to the rescue when a pharmacists has been flagged for over-billing Ontario's Drug Benefit Program.
The program covers all or most of the cost of medications for children, the elderly, and people on social assistance.
The man says in just three hours he can clean up the records of a pharmacist who charged taxpayers for medications that were never dispensed.
He says he's done it hundreds of times and only two to three percent of the scammers ever get caught.
Experts claim, an outdated tracking system makes it hard to find fraudsters, and when they do, it's not clear who entered false records, so the evidence may not be able to be used in court
What's this costing us?
Millions, but no one seems to know exactly how much.
