This one sounds like a perfect case of "not in my backyard".
A group of residents are outraged after the Peel District School Board announced plans to go ahead with the upgrade of a sports complex at Applewood Heights Secondary School near Bloor and Cawthra.
Construction is set to begin in a few weeks, on a project that will see the field upgraded to an astroturf surface, and a sythetic running track surrounding it.
The project is being funded through a private, public partnership, which has some residents off-kilter.
"The board is covering the cost of design and construction of the walking and running track, and Community Sports Partners is covering all of the remaining design and construction costs with these improvements, so that includes the artificial field and maintenance related costs." says Ryan Reyes a spokesperson for the board.
Resident, Athina Tagidou, a spokesperson for the community group, says they would have liked to see more communication and feels this project would be better built somewhere else, not in an established neighbourhood like this one.
Reyes says they didn't have to hold a public meeting since there's no sturctures being added to the site and the PPP is a way of getting the project completed.
"We wouldn't be able to do this without a partnership like this." says Reyes.
When asked if she'd be willing to pay extra on her taxes, to keep the private company out of the picture and fund this project, Tagidou couldn't say.
"Would we be prepared for that, it all depends on the amount, and also can this facility not be done somewhere else at another sports school, at another school within the Peel District School Board. Why does it have to be this specific facility at this location."
