The world's largest skating rink is open for the winter.
Skaters could starting hitting the ice on a 4.5 kilometre section of the Rideau Canal in Ottawa on Saturday.
The National Capital Commission hosted an official opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
The earliest canal opening was on December 18, 1972.
The latest was February 2 in 2002.
Last year, the canal didn't open until January 23 and closed 34 days later because of the mild temperatures.
