The province is warning of a rise in cases of possible norovirus that might be linked to oysters from British Columbia.
Since the start of the year, there have been two dozen cases of gastrointestinal illness that is consistent with norovirus. The patients all reported eating raw or undercooked oysters.
Officials say that oysters should be cooked at an internal temperature of 90 degrees Celcius (194 Farenheit) for at least 90 seconds. That would eliminate norovirus or other harmful microorganisms.
Symptoms of gastrointestinal illness include nauseau, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
