A Tory MPP who publicly denounced the PC government's cuts to Francophone services is turning her back on Premier Doug Ford.
Amanda Simard announced Thursday morning she will leave the Conservative Party to sit as an independent at Queen's Park.
Simard, an MPP who represents an area outside of Ottawa, broke ranks with her party again Wednesday backed what she called an ``important'' Opposition motion aiming to revive a planned French-language university and reinstate the office of the French-language services commissioner.
The rookie legislator who represents a largely Franco-Ontarian riding says the province's ``partial backtracking'' on the issue wasn't enough.
The Tories announced last week they would create a commissioner position within the office of the provincial ombudsman, as well as some other concessions.
No changes were announced in regard to the university.
