If you tune into the Blue Jays season finale game on Sunday, you'll notice a familiar face managing the team.
For his very last day on the job, manager John Gibbons is catching a break - literally - with catcher Russell Martin stepping in, instead as Toronto closes its 2018 in Tampa Bay against the Rays.
Canadian born-and-raised Martin, who was born in Toronto and grew up in Ottawa and Montreal, will be responsible for filling out the Jays lineup card and delivering it to the umpires, handling all game moves and being the team media representative before and after the game.
The star catcher played several different positions this year, including third base, shortstop and left field.
On Wednesday prior to the final home game, the team announced that Gibbons would no longer be manager next year.
With Martin stepping in, that means Saturday evening's game is Gibbons' final one as manager.
However, officials with the Jays have not ruled out Gibbons taking a different position with the team.
The Jays had a disappointing 2018 season, but are now in the midst of a rebuild with several young stars, including Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Rowdy Tellez and the highly anticipated Vlad Guerrero Jr.
