The Toronto District School Board says the family of a 14-year-old boy at the centre of an Amber Alert wasn't told the boy didn't show up to school on Wednesday until that evening because his teachers missed a deadline.
TDSB Spokesman Ryan Bird says four teachers at Newtonbrook Secondary School have been put on "home assignment" because their attendance data wasn't submitted before an 11 a.m. deadline.
Bird said there's no indication the recent job action by OSSTF amidst the ongoing labour negotiations with the Ford Government had any effect.
Police were "extremely concerned" for the boy's safety, who they believe was abducted Wednesday morning.
The Amber Alert was issued nearly 16 hours later and Toronto Police located him late Thursday night, after police revealed he had been abducted as retribution for a drug debt.
Bird says the school board has been in regular contact with his parents throughout the day Thursday.
Police say the boy was heard screaming for help as he was forced into a Jeep on Wednesday morning.
