As the start of school inches closer and closer, support staff workers, represented by CUPE are preparing for a contract fight with the province.
The workers, which include custodial staff, educational assistants and school office staff, will hold a strike vote in the first couple weeks of September.
The head of the union, Fred Hahn, says the bargaining this time, is less about salaries and more about money for services in schools.
"The jobs that our members have are important to them and their families, but the work they do is incredibly important to children and families across our province."
Hahn says it's important to underline that this is merely a bargaining chip in the process, and wouldn't even entertain a possible earliest date the workers could possibly be on strike.
The workers will be without a contract on August 31st, the same time the contract for teachers runs out.
However, in the case of support staff, their recent contract was a 2-year extension, thrust upon them by the previous Liberal government in the year leading up to the last provincial election.
