It was one of biggest and most scrutinized strategies the government has taken, and remains one of the top goals today: Keeping schools safe and open.
As expected, new cases in our schools are going up every day, now 10 percent of them have at least one case.
But when it comes to this second wave, what's going on in schools isn't what is driving up the numbers.
"Rising infections began before schools reopened in mid-September."
Toronto Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa says the increase is lagging behind the curve of adults, and the percentage of kids under 18, isn't going up in an alarming ways.
And of Toronto's 1,200 schools, there's only been 11 active outbreaks.
"If we are to have outbreaks, I would prefer to see numbers like these," says de Villa.
Ontairo's chief medical officer of health says only having to close four schools in the entire province is amazing when you think of our size.
