The search for a Buffalo Police diver continues Saturday after being suspended Friday night.
Buffalo News reports several members of the Buffalo Police Department's Underwater Recovery Team went into the Niagara River at the foot of West Ferry Street, but one did not come out.
The 14-member Underwater Recovery Team conducts monthly practices in the waters off the foot of West Ferry, and Friday was one of those practices.
Four rescue boats equipped with sonar conducted a grid search in the swift waters off Broderick Park, and underwater robots scoured the river's bottom.
Buffalo Police Lt. Jeff Rinaldo tells Buffalo News, "We will be here as long as it takes to locate the diver."
The search was suspended at 9 p.m., but it has resumed as of 7: 30 a.m. Saturday.
First responders from about 15 agencies, including Canada, are helping in the search.
34-year-old Craig E. Lehner is a police diver, a full-time K-9 Unit officer. He joined the police department in 2008.
