One week after a recall on the brand's chicken burgers, Sofina Foods is now pulling Janes Pub Style Chicken Strips from store shelves for the same reason - possible salmonella contamination.
The expanded recall on Janes products comes after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency conducted an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. Dozens of people across Canada had become ill after eating Pub Style Chicken Burgers last month.
The recalled product, sold nationally, comes in 800-gram packages with the UPC code 0 69299 12489 7 and an expiry date of May 11, 2019.
Inside the box, the plastic bag containing the breaded strips is stamped "1318M."
Anyone who bought the product should either throw it out immediately or return it to the store.
Symptoms of Salmonella-triggered food poisoning include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, cramps and diarrhoea. However, it can lead to long term complications such as arthritis, and is much more dangerous for children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
