Longtime Toronto City Councillor Shelley Carroll will close her office door at City Hall for the final time tonight.
She's resigning from her position, to focus on her run for the Liberals in the upcoming provincial election, which is just over two months away.
Carroll has been a councillor for 15 years, and has also stepped away from the police services board.
Councillors running for provincial election have the option of taking a leave of absence from their post, or resigning. With a leave, they would still be able to collect a salary, and their health benefits.
Carroll tells NEWSTALK 1010, that wasn't the route she wanted to take because it "never sits well in the eyes of the public", while admitting that most councillors who do take a leave, donate their salary to charity.
As for if she plans to run in the next municipal election if she doesn't win provincially, Carroll says she'll talk about it with her family on June 8th.
