There were at least two cases over the weekend in which Ontarians acted to control alleged thieves until officers arrived.
Ontario Provincial Police say an alleged intruder broke into a shop around 3:30 a.m. on a property in Oxford Country on Sunday.
They say the homeowner woke up and confronted the man inside the store before the alleged intruder took off.
Police say the homeowner tracked him down and the pair got into a fight, with the homeowner eventually subduing the man until officers arrived.
A 45-year-old man from Woodstock faces five charges in that incident and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Later that morning, around 11 a.m., Durham Regional Police say they were called to convenience store in Oshawa for a robbery call.
Police allege a man demanded cash from the store clerk, who bolted from the store and locked the man inside.
When officers arrived, the man was still inside.
Police say they arrested him without incident and charged him with robbery.
