A 21 year-old Toronto man is facing more than a dozen charges after he allegedly forgot a bag, containing a loaded handgun inside a store.
"We responded to a call for unknown trouble - [at] Brown's Line and Evans Avenue - in some kind of a store. A man had been shopping in the store, but he left behind a bag and inside the bag was a loaded semi-automatic handgun. Some concerned citizens found it, secured it and called police. The man returned to get his bag a short time later and was arrested," says Constable Dave Hopkinson with Toronto Police.
"What I find disturbing is that, of course, this man does not have a licence to have or carry a firearm and he has an extended clip, one that holds a significant amount of bullets."
Police have identified the man as 21 year-old Nigel Lopez.
He was charged with 14 offences including possession of a loaded restricted firearm, weapons dangerous, mischief and three counts of possession of a restricted weapon knowing no authority.
He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 416-808-2200.
