The Province's police watch dog is investigating after a cyclist was injured when he collided with a Toronto Police cruiser in Leaside Saturday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit says offiers were on the Leaside Bridge, in the Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard area, around 10 a.m. Saturday, called there for a person in distress.
A news release from the SIU says the cruiser was parked to the left of the bike lane and "when one of the officers opened the passenger door of the cruiser, a cyclist collided with the door."
The cyclists, a man in his 50s, suffered injuries to his upper body and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Two SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
