A mix of rain and snow blanketed the GTA Thursday morning, slowing the drive and sending snow clearing crews out onto the roads.
Environment Canada sent out a winter weather travel advisory, saying 4 to 8 centimetres of snow was expected in areas away from Lake Ontario.
Downtown Toronto saw more of a rain-snow mix.
The City of Toronto said salt trucks were sent out around 4 a.m. and they continued to work through the morning rush hour. Plows were sent out on the main roads in the Scarborough area and the Etobicoke -York area where there was more snow accumulation.
Meanwhile, there are snow squall watches for areas north of Toronto, including parts of Northern York and Durham regions, and the Barrie area.
Environment Canada says lake effect flurries and squalls are expected late Thursday afternoon into the overnight hours. The hardest hit areas could see 10 to 15 centimetres.
