The Gardiner Expressway will once again be a topic of debate at city hall Thursday.
Earlier this week, councillors endorsed adding road tolls to the Gardiner, and now they will be discussing the rehabilitation project.
Some councillors want to reopen the debate on what to do with the aging elevated section east of Jarvis because of rising costs.
Staff say that to fix up the Gardiner will now cost $3.6-billion,. a billion dollars more than the last estimate. Included in that number is rebuilding the eastern section, which has gone up in price by half a billion dollars to $1.4-billion.
That's enough for some councillors to want to re-think their options.
Councillor Mike Layton says he still wants to go with the "boulevard option," or tearing down the eastern elevated portion and replacing it with a boulevard.
That option has been less than half the cost of rebuilding.
