A 52-year-old Mississauga man charged with murdering his mother made his first court appearance Wednesday, leaving neighbours shocked.
Around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, an 88-year-old woman was brutally killed with some sort of weapon in a home on Shelby Crescent.
Peel Regional Police later said the accused was the victim's son.
CTV NEWS reports the man making the appearance Wednesday was identified as Antonio Biunno, appearing calm, not paying much attention and was asked repeatedly to state his name.
One neighbour said a son in the family would walk by his home speaking to himself.
"It was a little odd, but they certainly never caused any trouble," he said to CTV. "It shocked the heck out of us, all of us here because it's such a quiet little cubbie here in this section of town."
The case is Peel Region's 17th homicide of the year.
