LONDON - Spain's Garbine Muguruza has captured the women's title at Wimbledon.
Muguruza defeated American Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 in the women's final.
Williams, 37, was attempting to become the oldest woman in the Open era to win a Grand Slam title.
The oldest woman to win a major title is Williams' younger sister, Serena, who was 35 when she won this year's Australian Open.
Venus Williams last won the Wimbledon title in 2008.
Muguruza won last year's French Open but lost to Serena Williams in the 2015 Wimbledon final.
