We're still three and a half weeks away from the start of summer, but we're already under an air quality warning.
Environment Canada issued the warning Sunday, saying possible high levels of air pollution are expected over much of southwestern Ontario - including within the GTA.
The hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause the air quality to deteriorate, due to increasing ground-level ozone concentrations.
A moderate to high Air Quality Health Index is expected, and it could persist into Monday.
While a healthy individual may feel okay, children, senior and those with cardiovascular or lung issues are most at risk.
Symptoms to watch out for include coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Anyone feeling this way should head indoors as soon as possible.
The warning covers the GTA and the Golden Horseshoe, areas to the southwest and certain locations along the northern border of the GTA.
There's also a special weather statement in place because of the emerging heat in southern Ontario - something Environment Canada says we're not used to after a long, cold winter.
Ontarians are advised to drink plenty of cool liquids, dress for the conditions and try to seek a cool space for at least a few hours per day.
