It seems to come with the time of year.
Over the weekend, a total of 6 vehicles were impounded in York Region. Some for street racing, others deemed unsafe for the roads.
A group of drivers were stopped on Major Mackenzie near Leslie on Saturday, all headed towards the 404. Five of the eight vehicles were pulled off the roads right there. An 18-year-old man from Richmond Hill is facing several charges from York Regional Police, but several others were charged by the OPP.
"We often get an increase when the weather warms up, so we ar more aggressive and doing specific initiatives to target stunt driving and this type of speeding." says Constable Laura Nicolle.
She admits, that most of the people who saw their vehicles impounded were in their late teens, everyone likes to go fast.
"We see this type of dangerous driving and this type of high speeds... it doesn't apply to only one age bracket."
But as the weather warms up, Police will be out with several initiatives to keep the street racing in check.
"As a reminder too, to drivers on the roads, we have our helicopter out and about watching for this kind of thing." says Nicolle.
Which means you can run, but you won't get far.
