Former attorney general and cabinet minister Jody Wilson-Raybould has been invited -- along with seven other witnesses -- to come to the Standing Committee on Justice and speak about the SNC Lavalin scandal.
"We are confident their perspectives will help us, and Canadians, better understand the situation," read the statement from the Justice Committee Tuesday afternoon. "Following Ms. Wilson-Raybould's participation, the committee will meet to determine next steps."
"Canadians expect us to treat this matter seriously and fairly and to act with integrity. That is what we are doing."
Wilson-Raybould says she's still talking to her lawyer about what she can and can't say publicly in regards to what happened.
The former attorney general made the comment as she exited a cabinet meeting that she attended despite her resignation as veterans affairs minister last week, where she had been moved in a shuffle earlier this year.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters Wilson-Raybould asked to speak to her former cabinet colleagues, but he would not provide details because all cabinet conversations are confidential.
Her resignation from cabinet followed allegations that the Prime Minister's Office had tried to convince her to allow SNC Lavalin to negotiate a remediation agreement to avoid criminal prosecution on charges related to business dealings in Libya.
Wilson-Raybould told reporters Tuesday that she is still a member of the Liberal caucus and still consulting with legal counsel about what she described as her ``layered and incredibly complicated'' ethical and professional responsibilities as a lawyer and M-P.
The Liberal-dominated Commons justice committee agreed last week to study the affair and initially declined to invite Wilson-Raybould to appear - but committee member and Liberal M-P Iqra Khalid has now tweeted that she will ask the committee to invite Wilson-Raybould to testify.
The cabinet meeting came a day after the resignation of Trudeau's principal secretary Gerald Butts - who denied he had done anything wrong but said he had become a distraction for the government.
