One of Ontario's most high-profile public servants is resigning.
Secretary of Cabinet and the head of the Ontario Public service, Steve Orsini, will retire on January 31st.
Orsini has 27 years of government experience and was appointed to the public service position by Kathleen Wynne in 2014, but has also been praised by current Premier Doug Ford.
Ford released a statement following news of his departure.
" “I want to thank Steve Orsini for his service to the people of Ontario and his leadership at the helm of the Ontario Public Service. For 27 years, Steve worked supporting government across the political spectrum. I would like to particularly thank him for his counsel as we transitioned to the Government for the People and his advice and guidance during the first 6 monhts of our government," Ford said.
Orsini was in the news in recent weeks regarding the controversial appointment of Ron Taverner as Ontario Provincial Police commissioner, as he sat on the three-person hiring panel.
