The monthly update on the King Street pilot project has good news and bad news.
Upon the release of January statistics on Friday, the city says the morning rush trip between Bathurst St. and Jarvis St. is generally taking longer than it did the month before. However, that's only if you're headed eastbound.
However, on average, the pilot project is moving people quicker by two and a half minutes, with the most significant improvement taking place during the afternoon peak. At that time, the slowest streetcar travel times have improved by 4 to 5 minutes in either direction.
The report also says that despite concerns about loss of business traffic along the street, Customer spending since the pilot began pretty much matches up with the amount of spending over the past three years.
So what did Mayor John Tory have to say?
"The data is generally very positive on all fronts," Tory told reporters, adding that traffic is moving at a very similar pace to what it was before the King Street pilot.
As for the concerns about loss of business revenues and lower foot traffic along King, the report states that customer spending since the project began is in line with what it has been over the past three years.
