Hundreds of striking ground crew workers at Pearson airport have received a new offer from their employer.
About 700 Teamsters union members have been on strike since late July, concerned about benefits, a proposed three-year wage freeze, and temporary workers that their company hired last May.
Swissport, the employer, has made its first new offer since the strike began. Union members will vote on Wednesday night.
"It's going to be up to them to decide whether this is good for them, whether they feel this offer respects them as workers, whether they feel as though this is an improvement on their previous offer," says Christopher Monette with Teamsters Canada.
Swissport brought in replacement workers to keep operations going, but the union has questioned their training and arguest that the strike has led to flight delays and hundreds of pieces of luggage lost.
Officials with the employer write in a statement that they are optimistic that their workers will accept the latest offer.
Swissport employs ground crew workers for 30 airlines, including Sunwing, Air Transat, and Air France.
