The lawyer for the man arrested in a shooting at a playgroiund in Scarborough, plans to plead not guilty.
The two innocent little girls, just 5 and 9 years old, were playing in a park near McCowan and Steeles on June 14th.
Both girls are expected to survive.
Sheldon Eriya, 21, from Markham is facing a list of charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
His lawyer told reporters outside of court, that his client is not a violent person.
As a matter of fact, he suggested that Eriya has never owned a gun or even shot one.
His defence?
Poking holes in the investigation, caused by alleged low staffing levels at the Toronto Police.
“I follow the news just like anybody else. We know that the Toronto Police Association says that there are not enough police on the streets, that the staff is stretched very thin,” says lawyer Lenny Hochberg.
Police Union boss Mike McCormack told NEWSTALK1010 "If he's trying to infer that from an investigative standpoint, that our officers would take shortcuts or not be staffed appropriately to do the investigation, that would be misleading and I don't think anything could be further from the truth."
When asked if his client could be the get-away driver, he responded with "anything is possible."
Tarrick Rhoden, 23, and T’Quan Robertson, 23, are wanted for two counts of aggravated assault, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm with intent.
