A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and subsequently died of their injuries early Saturday morning, in the west end of the city, in a suspected case of drunk driving.
The collision occurred near Kipling Avenue and Stevenson Road, just north of Finch in Rexdale.
The victim was reportedly walking along at around 6:15 a.m., when he was struck by the car.
Pictures from the scene showed the vehicle involved had severe windshield and front hood damage.
Speaking to NEWSTALK 1010 Saturday morning, Toronto Police Const. Laura Brabant confirmed that the driver was likely under the influence.
"When police arrived on scene, we located the victim with very severe injuries. We also located the driver of the vehicle and he was placed under arrest, for what is believed to be impaired driving at this time."
It's unclear at this time just how the collision occurred, a process Brabant adds will be handled by Traffic Services.
"Right now it's going to be up to the Traffic Service officers on scene, to piece together exactly what led up to the collision, where the victim was walking at the time that they were hit and determine exactly what transpired."
The area around the collision remains closed to traffic.
