Public elementary teachers are hitting the picket lines across Ontario today which means it's another day that students are out of class.
But, we are starting to learn the ways in which teacher job action is impacting students outside the classroom.
A Toronto high school student in the Catholic board is upset, heartbroken she says, after a major swim meet was cancelled.
Chiara Alcantara tells CBC News that she and her team have been practising four times a week, getting to school at 7:30 a.m. to prepare for Thursday's school-board wide tournament.
Missing it means they won't qualify for a province-wide meet which means their season is essentially over.
The school board and the union seem to be blaming each other.
The board would need to find somewhere to put the swim coach's students on the day of the tournament.
It says the union has told teachers not to cover other teachers' classes.
The union says the school board could bring in an occasional teacher to fill in.
Meanwhile, Alcantara is frustrated, feeling stuck in the middle.
